I can fit my water bottle in the side pocket and still have room for a paperback in the lined inner compartment. The top hook is a small thing but it means the bag hangs on my desk instead of ending up on the floor.
The padded straps actually make a difference on my commute, no shoulder aches even with my laptop and water bottle stuffed in. The front flap pocket is perfect for keys and my transit card so I'm not digging around.
The padded straps actually make a difference on my walk to class, no shoulder ache even with my laptop and a water bottle in the side pocket. The inner lined compartment keeps my keys from scratching my phone, which was a problem with my last bag.
